TCU senior Cosmin Cotet was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while junior Anna Sydorska was named the MWC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Cotet went 3-1 over the weekend, including wins over two ranked opponents, to help lead the Frogs in a shutout win over No. 66 Minnesota and a tough loss to No. 15 Oklahoma State.
Cotet, ranked No. 83 nationally in singles play, cruised past No. 46 Raoul Schwark of Minnesota, winning the first eight games of the match en route to a 6-0, 6-4 victory. On Sunday, Cotet stunned No. 10 Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(5).
In doubles play, the 14th-ranked TCU duo of Brink and Cotet downed Minnesota's team of Schwark and Gallegos by a score of 8-5, and dropped a tough 9-8(3) decision to Oklahoma State's 54th-ranked team of Nedovyesov and Byrnes.
Anna Sydorska went 4-0 last week as TCU improved to 3-2 on the season, including an upset win over No. 16 William & Mary on Sunday.
In singles play, Sydorska recorded the only TCU win against No. 8 Baylor, as the junior defeated No. 22 Taylor Ormond by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. The Lviv, Ukraine, native won her fourth consecutive match on Sunday against Ragini Acharya of William & Mary to put the Horned Frogs ahead 2-0 in the match.
In doubles action, the 11th-ranked TCU duo of Macall Harkins and Sydorska provided the only win against Baylor with a convincing 8-2 victory over the duo of Bielikova and Filipiak. The Frog tandem pushed their season record to 4-0 on Sunday with an 8-4 victory over the No. 26 William & Mary team of Moulton-Levy and Zoricic. The win clinched the crucial doubles point that we be the deciding factor in TCU's 4-3 victory.
The weekly honor was the third for Cotet during his career at TCU, and the second this season. Sydorska claimed her first weekly accolade of her career. The TCU men's team has now earned three consecutive weekly awards this season, while the women's squad has added two awards.
