Trinity River is running a little low in Fort Worth

1

Although this was in the Startlegram several weeks ago, we’ve gotten enough e-mails about it to feel the need to post something. People are wondering — what’s the deal with the Trinity River?

Yes, the Trinity River is a little bit low. The water district opened the valve in its Beach Street dam last week to lower the water level and allow crews to repair a drainage structure at Texas 121. Water levels will remain low for at least six weeks, a district spokesman told the S-T.

And, yes, they are finding things like cars. And a West and Clear reader e-mailed yesterday and wanted to know, “What are those rusty barrels in the river by Riverside Park?”

Good question. Pete Wann is checking on that right now.

TXsharon, says:

Oil and gas operators are using trillions of gallons of water every year. That water is permanently removed from our hydrologic cycle. Let the enormity of that statement sink in then ask yourself this: which is more important gas or drinking water?
