DALLAS On Tuesday, Feb. 26, Marisa Treviño of Latina Lista, Cheryl Smith from Dallas Weekly, John Wright of the Dallas Voice, and Libbie Lee of the League of Women Voters Dallas gathered in the Dallas iMedia studios to discuss the primary election on Tuesday, March 4 with managing editor Catherine Cuellar.
Marisa discussed the newfound political excitement among Latinos. John noted political gains by GLBT leaders in recent elections as well. Cheryl said the diverse constituencies needed to garner popular support were reflected by the staff members working for various candidates. Then Libbie explained why Texas Democratic delegates are elected in two phases, and gave an idea of what to expect on Tuesday.

Cheryl and Libbie agreed that first-time voters and young voters will play a big role in this year's election. John and Marisa also talked about the potential disillusionment of those same eager new voters based on the Democratic party's superdelegate system. Then Catherine asked about local, county, and statewide candidates.
