TCU swimming and diving sets two records at Mountain West Championships

The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams set two new school records in the second day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships on Thursday. The men's team is currently fourth in the standings, while the women's team is seventh.
On the men's side, freshman diver Kyle Callens was the top finisher as the Deer Park, Texas, product posted a runner-up finish in the one-meter springboard event with a score of 307.55. R.J. Hesselberg, yesterday's three-meter champion, followed with a sixth-place showing (289.80).
Three Frogs finished in the top five in the 50-free event, led by senior Scott McCracken, who posted a time of 20.30 to place third. Fellow senior Jonathon Berrettini followed in fourth (20.36) and Josh Bagby set a personal-best with a time of 20.40 to place fifth.
Other top individual performances for TCU included Jeff Hendricks and Cameron Allred. Hendricks, a freshman from Southlake, Texas, finished 10th in the 500-free with a time of 4:31.57, while Allred notched a personal-best time of 1:52.22 in the 200-IM to place 11th.
The 200-free relay team of Berrettini, Bagby, Hendricks and McCracken set a new TCU record and also earned a NCAA `B' cut with a time of 1:20.39 to finish second.
The women's team was led by Maria Alvarez on Thursday, as the freshman set a new school record in the 500-free preliminary with a time of 4:55.22. The Cali, Colombia, native would record a clocking of 4:56.58 in the finals to place sixth.
Sophomore diver Jennifer Ferguson also placed in the top 10 on Thursday, notching a score of 276.30 to finish ninth in the three-meter springboard event.
Meredith Grubb swam to a 15th-place showing in the 200-IM with a time of 2:08.89, while Mychala Lynch earned a 16th-place finish in the 50-free (24.29).
The 200-free relay team of Nikki Pappas, Macy Zander, Alvarez and Lynch posted a time of 1:36.94 to finish seventh.
