Art openings and receptions, Jan. 4-6

While Friday is a bit light this weekend, some of the galleries are wasting no time in kicking off the new year, hosting openings and movie nights this first weekend in January.

Friday

• The Fort Worth Community Art Center is having another one of their mega, jam packed uber artist receptions for Katherine Strause (More Personal Stories), Grayson Harper (Destinations), the participating artists in FW15, Georgia Clarke (Pushing the Envelope), Tom Huckabee, Kim Lovelace & Patty Beck (Organic Translations), and Melodee Ramirez (Fragments).
• The Half-Price Books at Northwest Highway and Greenville is hosting an Open Mic Poetry night, brought to you by the Dallas Poets Community.
• And, as always, Reflection Fine Art will be hosting their weekly Friday Night Gallery Series. Party with the Reflectionists. At least think about it.

Saturday

• If the kiddos are making their own exhibit-worthy science projects, the Skillman Southwestern Branch Library is hosting a workshop on Science Fair Do's and Dont's that looks promising, and educational. (If you can't make it this weekend, there are plenty of others around Dallas. Check our science-related events page for other times and locations).
• Holly Johnson Gallery is bringing in the new year with an opening reception for Gael Stack's "Gaps, Sinkholes, and other Chasms".
• Conduit Gallery is opening their next line up featuring Billy Hassel, Reinhard Ziegler and Queen’s Nails Annex.
• Photographs Do Not Bend is opening their next exhibit, "Texas Bauhaus."
• Marty Walker is also hosting their first 2008 art opening with Jay Shinn's "With the Grain" and "Maquettes" by Tom Orr.
• Deep Ellum Film Night: Hopelessly Devoted, a Deep Ellum film retrospective is brought to you by (your favorite and mine) Kettle Art Saturday night.
