North Dallas Pug apparently stolen for Christmas present

13

— On Christmas Eve our little pug Scooter disappeared from our back yard (North Dallas - Midway and Royal). He was a year and a half old and we had raised him since he was a little puppy. We were devastated and felt that we had lost our little baby.

With the help of our neighbors we searched everywhere in the neighborhood, but he was nowhere to be found. We spent Christmas Eve crying and woke up early Christmas morning searching again, hoping beyond hope that we would find him. We posted signs around the neighborhood, but nobody knew anything about what happened to Scooter.

On New Years' Day, we received a strange letter from Tulsa. It was from the person who had taken Scooter. It was a sad story about a mother who seemed very down, having lost her home, job, and custody of her daughter due to her own personal decisions. She had taken our beautiful dog to give to her daughter on Christmas.

While she knew she had done the wrong thing by giving her daughter our dog, she did not want to tell her daughter and her ex-husband the truth about the dog that they now thought was theirs. The letter was not clear where the daughter lives, but they spent Christmas in Dallas with family.

We cannot understand how this mother could destroy another family just to make up for her past and pray that someone out there knows about a girl that got a pug for Christmas and helps us get our little baby back. We don't want anything bad to come to this family and are more than happy to buy the little girl a new dog and anything else that would reward her for taking such good care of our dog the past week. We just want Scooter to come home.

If you know anything about this situation, please email me at bringscooterhome@gmail.com. Thanks.

That's good news...hopefully the story will gain some momentum in Tulsa and this family can get their dog back. That had to make for a horrible X-Mas for that family...and I'm sure the thief’s child would gladly accept a 'replacement' puppy if she is willing to come forward (I'm sure the child deserves one, but the mother clearly needs some serious help).

It makes me ill that someone would just exchange a beloved member of a family for a typewritten excuse and a 20 dollar bill. The thief in question needs more than a dog to fix her issues. I hope she sees the damage she is causing and does the right thing. I know of quite a few animal adoption agencies who are willing to place a homeless dog with the family in tulsa.

That's a very generous offer for the dog's return. Although I suppose it may not help in his return to write "when I see you, I'm gonna tear your arm off and taser you in the stump" sort of thing.

Fingerprints on the letter, microchip in the dog etc etc etc???

Irony here; Dallas area animal shelters euthanized over 100,000 (semi-free) homeless animals last year. But someone can send $20 to help when they steal a dog? $20 would have gratefully got them any one of 60-70,000 dogs in Dallas, many of which are now dead because no one saw them to consider adoption, but rather, pursued some breed preference or failing that, theft. Is it 5 pm yet? I need a drink.

I think we should start euthanizing a few people....beginning with this worthless woman who stole the Pug.

You know this is just a publicity stunt by the RF Chip Lobby. Like DC mentioned, if this dog had been RF chipped the goverment could have honed in on its exact location, swept in with a ASPCA SWAT team, grabbed the animal in question and had it home to its beloved owner by dinner time.

"Don't Let Your Children Greive, Chip Your Family Pets And You'll Never Have To Suffer This Fate"

The Big Brother goverment strikes with its secret agendas again.

(As someone in the RF world I know they really can't do that (yet) but it sounded good when I was writing it!)

The chip will only work if the lost/stolen pet in question is taken to a location where a scan can be done to retrieve the info it holds.

It is NOT a GPS device. Sorry.

tt, I know it's not, and I don't think pst really does either. I just imagine that if this was my situation, I'd be plastering that chip number to veterinarians everywhere as well as notifying the company in case someone tries to change it. Also, if this person is really so down and out there is some chance her (?) fingerprints are in the system somewhere.

Besides, even though it's probably frankly stupid to get a dog from a breeder instead of a shelter, there is some chance this family spent a bunch of money on the dog, increasing it's dollar value and therefore law enforcement's potential interest in the situation.

Other lesson: when you have a dog and a yard, you need to secure it. It's called landscape edging, rocks and fence upkeep to have your furry friend safe.

DC, accidents happen, esp. in this case. Id do less of riding the owners on their fencing/landscaping issue and more on the thief. Just curious if anyone in the Tulsa media(TV/Radio/Paper/Web) has contacted this family about their theft??

I think I went easier on the owner with "maintain your fence" vs "amputate a limb and taser the stump" for the alleged perpetrator in this case.

Practical advice for everyone.
