In December, two wild skunks roaming around Cedar Hill tested positive for rabies.

Rabies is serious business.

Rabies is serious business.

While any infected humans are yet to be reported, Animal Control was forced to quarantine two pets that made contact with one of the stinky, feral little varmits.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Ellis County has had a high concentration of the rabies virus in skunks so far this year, while Dallas County has had fewer cases.

As always, Animal Control advises you to report (972-223-6111) any wild animals out during daylight hours or otherwise behaving abnormally. Also, make sure your pets have their rabies shots, and avoid contact with them, too.

Residents who believe that a pet has recently come into contact with a skunk or other high-risk rabies-carrying mammals including foxes, coyotes, raccoons, bobcats, or bats, should contact Animal Control.
