UPDATED: DART to divert funds from Dallas to cover Irving and Rowlett rail projects

DART president claims increased expense will not delay expansion

Struggling to minimize the financial fiasco surrounding rail projects scheduled for Irving and Rowlett, DART officials revealed a plan to use $350 million in funds earmarked for rail lines in downtown Dallas and Oak Cliff.

DART officials met with a crowd of Irving residents on Tuesday night and reassured them that the rail would be delivered as promised in 2011-2012.

Meanwhile, DART is seeking other ways to pay for a second rail line scheduled for downtown Dallas and an extension to Oak Cliff. They'll discuss it at the next board meeting on January 22. None of it -- more borrowing, less building -- sounds reassuring.

UPDATE: Responding to Dallas and Rowlett complaints, DART president Gary Thomas says all planned expansion will occur on-schedule.

I remember when Mesquite was staunchly against DART because they did not want undesirable people to have easy access to Mesquite. Look at you now Mesquite, look at you now.
