UPDATED: Bedford residents oppose proposed gas drilling, but council approves it

The majority of the 500 people who attended on a town hall meeting Wednesday are against a proposed gas drilling ordinance.

— In a move that's at odds with other Tarranty County cities, the majority of nearly 500 people who showed up for a town hall meeting in Bedford Wednesday night opposed a proposed gas drilling ordinance. Those opposed say the gas wells would bring unwanted noise and pollution, and would take up valuable open space in the city.

UPDATE: After much discussion, the Bedford City Council approved gas drilling with restrictions in a 4-3 vote late Tuesday night.

To all of those who complain about high oil and gas prices if (a) You use anything modern today (cars, plastic, etc), and (b) You are not willing to allow drilling in Bedford, then you really need to grow up and make a sacrifice for once in your life. You should be willing to make your contribution by allowing wells in Bedford. It is funny to think that many americans could care less if civil wars are occurring in foreign because of our oil needs as long as we get our treasured oil. Too many Americans love to consume, but are not willing to sacrifice anything in return. Also, many complained at the town meeting that it is loud and dangerous. Yall have obviously not been out to a rig before. I just spent this week out on one and slept better there than I ever have at home. You would be surprised what 500 ft distance can do to diminish the noise of a rig.
