SMU men’s tennis releases spring schedule

The No. 47 SMU men's tennis team released its spring schedule Friday, announced by head coach Carl Neufeld. This season will feature matches against nine nationally-ranked opponents, three of which were conference champions last season.

The Mustangs will kick off their spring schedule by heading to Austin to face seventh-ranked Texas at 1pm on Jan. 26. The Longhorns finished last season ranked 11th in the country and second in the Big 12. After a three-match homestand, the Ponies head north to take on No. 12 Notre Dame Feb. 10. The Fighting Irish captured the BIG EAST title last season and ended 2007 ranked fifth.

SMU returns to Dallas to host four matches, concluding with No. 41 Minnesota on Feb. 24. The Mustangs then hit the road again to face No. 31 VCU and No. 35 Virginia Tech, Feb. 29 and March 1. SMU will play host to No. 61 Indiana on March 10 before traveling to take on USF and Cal March 14-15.

The Ponies briefly return to Dallas to face 2007 Ivy League Champion Columbia on March 22 before heading to Waco to take on 2007 Big 12 Champion No. 4 Baylor on March 27.

Conference play starts March 29 with the Mustangs hosting Memphis at noon. C-USA play continues April 6 when No. 32 Rice comes to Dallas, along with Grambling State. The Ponies travel to Tulsa April 12 to take on the Golden Hurricane.

The regular season concludes on April 16 as SMU hosts cross-town rival No. 62 TCU at 2pm in the new Turpin Center.
