UNT’s E-CSI makes science fun for kids

They may not need no stinkin' badges, but they'll probably take them if they're offered.

On Saturday, Feb. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the University of North Texas Elm Fork Education Center will present E-CSI: Denton (in which E-CSI stands for Environmental Crime Scene Investigation, and Denton stands for - um - Denton).

Special E-CSI revolvers were initially considered but will not, it turns out, be issued to the young investigators along with their badges

The location of the event is the Environmental Education, Science and Technology Bldg. at the corner of Hickory St. and Ave. C. Admission is $6/child, with caretaker adults attending free of charge (up to two).

The program covers crime scene investigative techniques, with the kids receiving training and (upon completion) a badge, which they will then have a chance to wear while solving a mystery at the Elm Fork Education Center. (EPA reps will be on hand to assist the kid detectives.)

Techniques to be demonstrated include fiber analysis, fingerprinting, problem solving, DNA encoding and - it says here - more. (I doubt that handgun training will be part of the "more," even though REAL CSIs carry sidearms, as we all know.)
