TCU diver Hesselberg has lock on diver of the week award
R.J. Hesselberg was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Diver of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. Hesselberg has earned the conference accolades seven times this season, setting a new MWC record.
Hesselberg posted three wins on the weekend to help lead TCU against No. 23 BYU and Utah. The TCU divers swept three of the four events competed in during the two meets.
Against BYU, Hesselberg dominated the three-meter event with a score of 344.10, which was over 65 points higher than the next closest competitor. Hesselberg also posted a third-place finish in the one-meter event (246.52).
The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native would follow two days later by sweeping the diving events at Utah. Hesselberg took the top spot in the one-meter with a score of 276.22, and won the three-meter by over 56 points with a score of 311.40.
Hesselberg has put together a stellar junior campaign, posting 10 events wins. Hesselberg currently holds the top scores in the conference in the one- (276.22) and three-meter (347.33) dives. Hesselberg's score in the three-meter event is currently over 46 points higher than the next closest competitor in the league.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Shreveport, La., to face Centenary on Saturday at 12 p.m.
