Audio interview: Urban Wildlife in Dallas

Living the city life here in the Metroplex as we do, we rarely have a chance to think much about nature and wildlife and our place within the environment. Or, if we do, we think about the squirrels we are trying to dodge in our cars as they make a mad dash across the street from one tree to another, or maybe we’re scattering a flock of pigeons as we head out of the McDonald's drive-through.

I had a chance to think a little deeper than normal about the environment and about wildlife when I paid a visit to the Urban Wildlife Office of Dallas Fort Worth located within the boundaries of Cedar Hill State Park just 10 miles southwest of Dallas. John Davis, who covers Fort Worth, and Brett Johnson, who covers Dallas, are two of just nine urban wildlife biologists who work for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department throughout the state. We sat on a picnic table just outside their office in Cedar Hill State Park, between Joe Pool Lake and the Perch Pond, and we discussed the concept of urban wildlife. Let’s listen …
