NTTA chairman promises speedy Trinity project completion
Mayor Tom Leppert has been advocating a fast-forward approach to building the Trinity River project. Now, North Texas Tollway Authority Chairman Paul Wageman has pledged that his agency would try to complete the project by 2013, a year ahead of schedule. However, this article points out that the promise is not only NTTA's, and other supportive agencies, to make.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warns that funding comes from the U.S. Congress, and if they don't intend to speed appropriations, the corps will have difficulty finishing their portion before 2014. Additionally, the corps has to approve all the work done by the city, a process which takes years and cannot (probably should not) be sped up.
