People around Stephenville actually saw F-16s - not UFOs - says Air Force

This Air Force spokesperson (and his bulky assistant) report that there were, indeed, planes over Roswell (I mean, Stephenville) on the night in question.

This Air Force spokesperson (and his bulky assistant) report that there were, indeed, planes over Roswell (I mean, Stephenville) on the night in question.

According to this story quoting an Air Force Reserve news release, the UFOs reported by residents around Stephenville, TX on the evening of Jan. 8 were actually F-16 fighters of the 457th Fighter Squadron (based at the Joint Reserve Base outside Fort Worth) on a night-time training mission.

The Air Force originally denied that any of their aircraft were flying in the vicinity that evening; according to a fighter wing spokesperson, however, that initial report was - um - wrong. Citing "an internal communications problem between offices at the base," the spokeschap stated that the Air Force was releasing the new statement "In the interest of public awareness."

What's striking is the categorical tone of the statement, which instead of saying "that's probably what people saw" couches it more in terms of "that's what people saw." Period.

(*SIGH*) This slipshod military reportage two-step is EXACTLY the sort of fodder that the saucer true believers masticate tenaciously in order to demonstrate that there's a cover-up going down. (Forget the Alamo: remember Roswell?)
