SMU men’s soccer coach honored by NSCAA
SMU men's soccer coach Schellas Hyndman was named this year's recipient of the Mike Berticelli Excellence in Coaching Education Award at the recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention in Baltimore.
Hyndman, who has more victories (466) than any coach in any sport in SMU history, has been a long-time influential part of the NSCAA Academy staff. As a member of the Senior Academy staff, he has shaped the instruction of NSCAA candidates and has taught NSCAA courses throughout the nation, as well as in England and Brazil.
A former NSCAA President and NSCAA vice President for Education, Hyndman also is an NSCAA Director of Coaching Emeritus. The Mike Berticelli Award is named in memory of the late Notre Dame men's coach who was the NSCAA Vice President for Education when he passed away in 2000.
Hyndman was not the only SMU coach honored this year by the NSCAA, which also named SMU assistant Tim McClements the South Region Assistant coach of the Year, making him eligible for the National Assistant Coach of the Year award.
