Gay-owned Jones Walker Furniture celebrates moving to huge new digs

HAVE A SEAT:Max Jones, above, and Tony Walker are ready for their grand opening in the Knox-Henderson district.

After five successful years in the State Thomas district, life partners Tony Walker and Max Jones, along with co-owner Maribel Leon decided to make the big leap to Knox-Henderson. And by doing so, they’re tripling the size of the Jones Walker Furniture showroom.

The day before this week’s official grand opening, Jones acted as an impromptu tour guide, practically bubbling over with pride over the gorgeous and meticulously styled layout.

“I’m sorry the place is such a mess,” he smiles.

Throughout the 7,000-square-foot showroom are swanky vignettes of contemporary armchairs, sofas, sectionals, ottomans, tables and even bedrooms sets. Dallas painter Jennifer Morgan’s trippy-fun canvases deck the walls as well as works by other locals.

Gay event planner Shane Walker works his floral skills, assembling branches in a gargantuan vase with boxes of fresh roses at his feet. Walker plans to open a floral design studio into the rear of Jones Walker, once his other lease is complete.

Tony Walker gets ready for his close-up and busts out a fancy martini glass as he and Jones relax by the mod-print Marquis sofa, which was partially named after Marco’s restaurant, the gayborhood’s now-defunct Italian boîte.

The Knox-Henderson area isn’t their first expansion. In September 2006, Jones Walker opened a showroom in Plano.

Does it really matter that it's "Gay-Owned"?

Aaron, the Dallas Voice, as you can tell by their content partner page, bills themselves as "The community newspaper for gay & lesbian Dallas." That headline came directly from their website, and I didn't see any reason to change it here.

When it comes to anything regarding interior decorating obviously a gay-owned business is the place to go. Duh.

Why did this story deserve coverage by PN?

It seems like advertising to me, not news.

It's actually coverage by a content partner of PN, as noted at the bottom of the article. And considering Dallas Voice is a community newspaper for gays and lesbians, makes perfect sense imo.
