Case dropped against Lewisville teen who tried to get high innocently sniffed teacher’s hand sanitizing gel

Here's my first question: Denton County prosecutors actually brought up a case against a seventh grader who reportedly used his teacher's hand sanitizer and inhaled deeply? Here's my second question: Hand sanitizer is considered "the latest thing to huff" (according to Lewisville assistant police chief Joni Eddy)? I have tons of that stuff! I could have been high this whole time!

Questions aside, a Lewisville seventh grader was put through an ordeal that started in October 2007, when he allegedly "inhaled heavily" some of his teacher's hand sanitizing gel (if it's a popular thing to huff, should teachers keep it on their desks?). Then last Tuesday the boy's father was served a petition charging that his son used the product in such a way to become intoxicated. After hiring attorney J. Michael Price II, the DA's office decided they made a mistake and the case has been dropped. Despite the dropped case, Joni Eddy maintains that her staff pursued the case appropriately. I imagine some people would tend to disagree.

John McClelland, says:

I've already had to show ID to buy canned air (at Office Max) and fuel injector cleaner ( at Wal Mart) for the car.

Is hand sanitizer next?

I think the Denton County DA needs to spend more time charging drug dealers in this county, rather than wasting time on 7th graders.

"Is hand sanitizer next?"

This is discrimination against all germ-fearing peoples, AND I WON'T STAND FOR IT.

DC, says:

Maybe they should start using this as part of the school uniform.

Of course, they could always substitute it with 'cheese'
