“Some people build fences to keep people out…and other people build fences to keep people in….” observes Troy Maxson's long-time best friend. Troy Maxson was once a star of the Negro Baseball League, but by the time the major league teams began accepting African-American players, Troy was too old to compete. In 1957, he is a bitter man who builds his own fences that ultimately separate him from his own family. Maxson's son wants a chance at professional sports, but Maxson refuses to let him try his luck.
Denton Community Theatre presents August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play, Fences. This highly acclaimed drama is directed by Theresa Ferrell, who led Denton Community Theatre's production of Crowns to national and international honors in 2007.
Ferrell says that she feels she “hit the jackpot once again with this wonderful cast and crew.” The cast members are all new to the Campus Theatre, but bring some impressive acting credits and real commitment to making this production a success. The role of Troy Maxson is played by Lawrence Varnado who has appeared in several T.V. shows including Prison Break and Walker, Texas Ranger. Remaining cast members, Albert Titus, Jr., Kristen Carroll, Lorenza Aubrey, Corinth Booker, Senam Dey, and Kennedy Ryan Williams complete this inspiring ensemble.
Tickets available by calling 940-382-1915.
