Firestarter Productions announces 2008 season

0

Since Firestarter Productions is quite new to the theater community and finding resources for a full season must be difficult, their 2008 season only contains two shows. The shows will take place at Circle Theatre in Sundance Square with showtimes Thursday - Saturday at 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays & Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10-15 and can be reserved by calling 817-877-3040 or email timlong@circletheatre.com. Here is what they will be staging and re-staging over the next year:

  • Sonnets for an Old Century from April 24-27. José Rivera play that examines what it means to be alive at this particular time and place and what traces each of us will leave behind. In a series of exquisitely written monologues, the play captures the subtle, often overlooked treasures of everyday life.
  • Trash Anthems from October 23-26. A set of six short plays by Dan Dietz. In the Austinist, Dietz said they are "'trash anthems' in the sense that they're my songs to beloved losers from across time and social strata.... The woman whose methamphetamine addiction has forced her to take a job involving indecent exposure. The men who drop an atomic bomb on their friends in the name of patriotism. The woman who unloads a shotgun into her boyfriend in the name of love..... And Superman. These are just some of the characters collected into this single evening of short plays. They're all down on their luck. They're all facing catastrophe. And I think that's why their stories appeal to me. Oh yeah: and they're funny."
