Hmm... maybe the City of Dallas would benefit from hiring a few hawks to do their dirty work.
Grackle's are evil, much worse than pigeons, because they will pro-actively and aggressively knock fried rice out of your hands, spilling it all over the ground so they can eat it. Fort Worth knows this better than any city, but they can't seem to get rid of their grackle problem. This time Fort Worth is taking a more... Discovery Channel approach. Their tactic: hawks. Why? Because hawks eat grackles.

Am I the only person in this state that actually likes the grackles?

Scott of the Miller variety, I honestly wouldn't know it if I saw a grackle...but I entirely support using birds of prey to eradicate annoying things whenever possible.

Scott of the Doyles, I'm very OK with using hawks. Beats the hell out of using DDT or strychnine or guns or something.
Still, I think grackles get a bad rap around here. They were here first.

But isn't that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we're overrun by hawks?
No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They'll wipe out the hawks.
But aren't the snakes even worse?
Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.
But then we're stuck with gorillas!
No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death.
