Texas Christian University plans to open a new exhibit space for contemporary art in February. Dubbed "Fort Worth Contemporary Arts," the 2,500 sq. ft. venue (at W. Berry St. and Greene Ave.) will augment the campus-based Moudy Gallery.
To curate the new gallery, TCU has turned to Gavin Morrison, who is specifically referred to in the press release as a Scotsman - presumably because he (and/or TCU) is proud of said heritage.
The answer to the question of just how a Scotsman will respond to the challenge of curating "cutting edge" contemporary art can be discovered on Feb. 15, when the gallery's first exhibit opens to the public. Called Material Culture, the show will feature sculpture by mid-career and emerging Texas artists, including the likes of Helen Altman, Richie Budd, Margarita Cabrera, Bill Davenport, Jonathan Durham, Jessica Halonen, Lily Hanson, Joseph Havel, Polly Lanning Sparrow, Katrina Moorhead, Chris Sauter and Brad Tucker.
There will be an opening reception from 6 - 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15; regular gallery hours going forward will be Thursday-Sunday from 1 - 6 p.m.
The Dept. of Art & Art History's vision for the new venue includes "a breadth of art forms, including new media and experimental works," to be accompanied by catalogs and books designed to further the gallery's research interests.
