UT Arlington men’s tennis routed by Baylor

UT Arlington men's tennis team dropped its opening duel match of the 2008 season 7-0 to No. 4 Baylor on Saturday. The Mavs start the season 0-1, while the Bears improve to 3-0.

UTA dropped the doubles point to start the match down 1-0. The No.1 pair of freshmen David Costa and Hugo Taracido were the last to fall, 8-5 to junior David Galic and freshman Jordan Rux. No. 3 doubles team, Gonzalo Bienzobas and Nishanti Hari fell first 8-0 to Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller. At No. 2 doubles, Dmitry Minkin and newcomer Brieuc Hamon fell 8-3.

Hari dropped the first singles match of the night 6-0, 6-0 to Mueller at the No. 6 slot. Poerschke picked up point number three for the Bears, when Costa retired after one set. As the No. 5 single, Bienzobas fell 6-1, 6-3 to Rux followed by Hamon in the No. 4 slot falling 6-3, 6-1 to Bucko. As the No. 3 singles, Taracido dropped his first set 6-2, but battled back to win the second set 7-6 before falling 10-8 in the third. Minkin, as the No. 2 single battled the #10 ranked player in the nation ,Lukacs, eventually falling 7-5, 6-2.

The Mavericks are back in action on Friday, Feb. 1, when they face Illinois State at 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
