Art Institute of Dallas buys Stars tics; gives them away

(To deserving youngsters, that is.)

The Art Institute of Dallas has donated - out of the kindness of their hearts (and because it makes for good PR) - 50 tickets to the Feb. 5 Stars game against the Vancouver Canucks to high-achieving students at Franklin Middle School.

It's part of an initiative called "Companies Helping Kids," and under terms of the deal there will be 50 more tickets donated to organizations of the Stars' choosing, to include Camp Fire USA, the Wycliff Bible Youth Group and Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation - all compliments of the Art Institute.

By a happy coincidence, the Feb. 5 game is being played right here in Dallas, saving the lucky ticket recipients the cost of air fare to Vancouver. (It's nice when things work out right.)

The Magnetic Fields Quartet led by songwriter Stephen Merritt is resolutely "indie" so how come their music has been used in a Volvo commercial and appeared in the film Lemony Snicket? More info
