Dallas’ Magnolia screens free classic films in February
Digital big screen shows of Turner Classics in the comfort of plush auditorium seating. Buy some popcorn; kick back and enjoy life.
Carrying on with its program of screening digitally-projected classics from Turner Classic Movies, the Magnolia has four such events lined up for February.
On Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. you'll have a chance to hear Keir Dullea mutter those immortal words "open the pod bay doors, Hal," as Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey fills the screen - all 160 minutes of it. Who knows? Maybe Arthur Clarke will fly in from Sri Lanka just to see it. (Hey, stranger things have happened.)
Four days later (on Monday, Feb. 11 at 2:30 p.m.) you can watch as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, leaving Mrs. Smith behind, one presumes.
Do you like it hot? Round about late February I suspect that a lot of us North Texans will be saying that (or at least thinking it), and on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. they can get it that way, as Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon appear in the Billy Wilder guys-in-drag comedy, Some Like It Hot.
And finally - on Thursday, Feb. 28 (I almost said the last day of the month, but not this year) - you'll have a chance to hurl kernals at Topol, that pesky Fiddler on the Roof (Norman Jewison, 1971). Good luck knocking him off.
All classic TCM screenings at the Magnolia are free - just pick up your tickets at the box office on the day of the show.
