UPDATED x2: Dallas Mavericks about to bring Jason Kidd back to Dallas

— UPDATE 2: Not so fast.

UPDATE: According to Frontburner and Yahoo Sports, it appears a deal for Kidd is "imminent," sending Kidd to the Mavericks in exchange for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, $3 million and two 1st-round draft picks.

According to this story from Yahoo Sports, it appears the Dallas Mavericks are trying to negotiate a three-team trade to bring disgruntled point guard Jason Kidd back to the town where he started his NBA career. The New Jersey Nets and Portland Trailblazers are the other two teams involved.

From the report, it would appear Dallas would give up Devean George and Jerry Stackhouse to the Blazers, while parting ways with promising young guard Devin Harris as well, sending him to the Nets.

In return, the Mavericks would receive one of the league's premier point guards, along with his hefty $21 million salary. Considering where the Mavs are in the Western Conference and figuring in their recent playoff failures, it is a trade most Dallas fans likely would make in a heartbeat.

Kidd, drafted with the Mavericks' #1 pick in 1994, is currently averaging 11.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game, and could fill the shoes left when Steve Nash bolted for Phoenix.

Scott Doyle, says:

Needs less trading of Devin Harris, imo.
