— La Reunion TX is hosting their first annual Tree Carving and Open House at the LRTX land on Saturday, Feb 2. Watch artists create site specific installations in and around non-native dead or dying trees that have been tagged by Preservation Tree. and approved by the City of Dallas. Tours of on-site native flora by Texas Discovery Gardens start at 11AM and 1PM. Imagine someday taking a walk through the woods in Dallas and exploring an outdoor gallery of decomposing Tree Art through a system of trails on the 35 acres. The Tree Carving program treads lightly and only takes out trees that are unhealthy, dead / dying, or non-native as a way to restore a balanced ecosystem.

Participating artists for '08 include Kevin Obregon, Brad Ford Smith, Allan Arp, David Carapetyan (and crew!), Cindy Thomas, Molly Sharp, and Tyler Sharp. RSVP to sarah@LaReunionTX.org or 469-951-7323 for directions to the site and parking instructions. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared to be outdoors. There's no restroom on site. Eventually La Reunion TX will be building a facility as green and off grid as possible to house artists local, national, and international providing them with live/work space for periods ranging from one week to one year. In exchange, LRTX will require artists to give back through education and outreach through collaborative programming with other orgs in Dallas.

The mission of La Reunion TX is to to create an arts residency in Dallas, TX that inspires, renews, and sustains artists and community through education and outreach.Tree Carving sponsored by Preservation Tree and City Gallery.
