TCU hosts “Reel Religion” film festival

0

Godalmighty!

Texas Christian University has announced the lineup for their Reel Religion 5 film festival, with a range of selections for your viewing pleasure lined up for three times slots on Friday evening (Feb. 8, 7 p.m.), Saturday morning (Feb. 9, 9:30 a.m.) and Saturday afternoon (Feb. 9, 1:30 p.m.).

Films will screen, somewhat disorientingly, inside an actual church - namely, the University Christian Church at 2720 S. University Drive in Fort Worth. For those attending both sessions on Saturday, a lunch catered by Cousins Bar-B-Q will be available, but you'll want to make a reservation for that part of the proceedings if you're planning to partake.

Here's the lineup of films available for viewing; I was confused at first trying to figure out how they were going to cram in so many feature-length films in such a small time period (snippets only?) but a call to TCU's Office of Extended Education clarified that attendees are expected to choose one film from each lineup during the designated time period:

Friday, Feb. 8, 7 p.m.

The History Boys

Amazing Grace

Good Night, and Good Luck

Waitress

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Charlotte s Web

Saturday, Feb. 9, 9:30 a.m.

Paper Clips

Bruce Almighty

Street Fight

Husbands and Wives

Being John Malkovich

Pocahontas

12:30 p.m. Lunch (reservations required)

Saturday, Feb. 9, 1:30 p.m.

Freedom Writers

Dead Man Walking

The Lives of Others

The Painted Veil

Vanilla Sky

The Prince of Egypt

Following their movie-viewing, attendees will split into discussion groups to talk about the issues raised in the various films. Since this is all taking place in a church, I'm guessing the discussions will center on a Christian perspective.

It's free to attend the films and panel discussions associated with this rather oddly-structured event, but you'll want to RSVP ahead of time by visiting the Extended Ed website or calling 817-257-7132.

Oh - as we've been led to believe, there's no free lunch: the barbecue provided will set you back $8 for adults or $6.50 for kids under 12.
