NEW YORK CITY The Texas Rangers came close, but a total pitching meltdown in the bottom of the seventh led to a blowout 18-7 defeat in Yankees Stadium Wednesday night. The loss dropped the Rangers to 44-42, and 0-7 in the third games of series in which they won the first two games.

Looks like those Kabbalah bracelets are working wonders for the Yankees' offense
The Rangers were winning until the fateful seventh, when undrafted rookie Warner Madrigal, making his first career start, gave up six runs off four hits in just the first third of the inning. Madrigal was relieved by Jamey Wright, who promptly gave up a three-run home run to former Ranger Alex Rodriguez.
Fellow rookie Luis Mendoza had a sub-par day starting against the Yankees, lasting into the fifth and allowing six runs --five of which were technically unearned. Mendoza certainly looked about as comfortable at the plate as Yankees starter and Ranger castoff Sidney Ponson, who gave up seven runs and nine hits over just five innings of work. Ponson was unceremoniously dumped by the Rangers earlier this year for conduct detrimental to the team.
Despite the lopsided score, several Rangers had decent days at the plate. Frank Catalanatto went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored. Milton Bradley hit a two-run shot in the top of the sixth off Ponson, and now is hitting .320 with 17 home runs.
Rookie phenom Chris Davis followed that with a two-run blast of his own, which chased Ponson. Davis has hit three home runs in his first seven games in the majors, and has turned into an RBI machine even when not knocking balls out of the park.
Ian Kinsler went 1-for-4 with a run scored, and extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Kinsler leads the American League in batting at .323.

True, the pitching melted down last night, but overall the Rangers earned alot of respect by winning the series in Ruth's house.
