DALLAS The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has signed right wing B.J. Crombeen to a one-year, two-way contract that would pay him $550,000 for the 2008-09 campaign at the NHL level.
βB.J. has been with us for a number of years now and has flourished through our development process,β said Stars Co-General Manager Les Jackson. βHe has gained some really valuable experience and his game is to the point where he is ready to take the next step. He is knocking on the door of the NHL.β
Crombeen, 22, appeared in eight regular season games with Dallas last season, notching two assists and 39 penalty minutes, and he went scoreless in five Stanley Cup Playoff games. He skated in 65 games with the AHL Iowa Stars, earning 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists) and a team-high 158 PIM.
Originally selected in the second round (No. 54 overall) in the 2003 Entry Draft, Crombeen made his NHL debut on Jan. 19 vs. Columbus and earned his first career NHL point with an assist on March 29 at Los Angeles. He was a member of the Kelly Cup champion Idaho Steelheads in 2007, posting 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in 22 ECHL Playoff outings.
The 6-2, 212-pound right wing won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2003 World Under-18 Championships and was played in the Ontario Hockey League All-Star Game in 2003 and 2004. His father, Mike, scored 123 points (55 goals, 68 assists) in 475 career NHL games with the Cleveland Barons, St. Louis Blues and Hartford Whalers from 1977-85.
