Blood on the Highway was a featured midnight movie at the recent AFI Dallas International Film Festival. I was sorry to have to missed it (in order to sleep or write reviews or some such nonsense), particularly after getting a look at one of the film's stars, Robin Gierhart, at a red carpet event on the evening of the show.

Well, now I'll have another chance to see the movie, and so will you - it's playing this coming Friday (July 11) at 8 p.m. at the Lakewood Theater.

As an added incentive, local bands Tober Omi and 100 Damned Guns - who both contributed tunes to the soundtrack - will be playing live at the screening.

In terms of story, what we've got here is a vampire tale involving attractive-looking road-tripping young people (ref. Ms. Gierhart), cannibalistic convenience store clerks and the North Texas town of Fate. (Poetic, eh?)

Yes, the movie was actually filmed in North Texas. No, the town of Fate isn't actually populated by vampires. (Is it?)

Sounds better than the "Blood on the Highway" 16mm film I got to see in high school Driver's Ed class in California way back when.
