Famed UNT jazz program’s chairman Neil Slater retires
DENTON The University of North Texas is known for jazz, especially the One O’Clock Lab Band. Neil Slater, 76-year-old chairman of the jazz studies division, can lay claim to being mostly responsible for that.
But Slater is retiring Aug. 31. For the sake of the school and the community, let’s hope a director who can fill his shoes comes along.
