Rat factory odor inspires complaints from surrounding businesses and residents in South Fort Worth

14

Your face emits an odor.

Your face emits an odor.

The Big Cheese Rodent Factory, which has operated in South Fort Worth for five years, is under investigation by the Fort Worth Public Health Department after multiple complaints of an odor being emitted from the building. The factory has also applied to rezone the property, which would allow them to expand, however the zoning commission has delayed the request after protesters showed up to the May meeting. The factory is making a marked effort to control the odor, but it will take a little bit of time.

Gee, whodathunk that a factory that produces "superior quality frozen feeder mice and rats" would have a bad odor coming from it? I mean, it boggles the mind!

I'm sorry - the whole thing is disgusting. And yeah, I stopped eating meat at 14, so this isn't a hypocrisy at work.

Alex Bentley, says:

Methinks AnnMarie thinks the rats and mice were being bred for human consumption. They're for snakes and the like, AnnMarie -- not that that makes it any less disgusting.

WHAT?!?

You're telling me... feeder rats aren't actually supposed to be fed to humans?!

AnnMarie Wilson, says:

No... I simply cannot stomach (pun or not) the thought of breeding something for the sheer purpose of killing them.

Be it meat, fur etc - If a wild animal hunts for food that's one thing, but this, to me is horrifying.

Pavel Lishin, says:

AnnMarie - a lot of pet snakes don't eat frozen/defrosted mice, so they do hunt for them. I guess they're not "wild", but I'm pretty sure that a python can't live on tofu, anyway.

No one is killing the rats; snakes are killing (i.e. "eating") the rats.

If you have an issue with the way snakes eat rats, pls direct your inquiries on this matter to the designer of the snakes.

Ooops, I stand corrected. I followed the link and it appears the biz vaccuum packs the little rodents. Unless they are very good at holding their breath it certainly looks like some, at least, are killed at the biz.

Eeww!! So what then, do you have to hold it by the tail and bounce it around to trick the snake into thinking it's alive?? Double eewww!!!
