DENTON On May 10, a 37-year-old female member of Denton FireCATS, a fire department volunteer group, filed a harassment complaint against Denton firefighter Daniel Robert Hankins with whom she had been romantically involved. The woman quit volunteering for the fire department, but over the next several weeks she continued to receive numerous threatening, graphic and derogatory text messages and phone calls, allegedly from Hankins while he was on duty. Although she reported the matter to supervisors at Hankins’ station, changed her phone number, and e-mail provider, the calls and text messages continued. On June 25, her phone was ringing constantly and at 9:55 p.m. she called the battalion chief at Hankins’ station and informed him. The battalion chief allegedly told her that Hankins was on duty at the time and that he would take care of the matter. According to the former volunteer, the calls stopped by 10 p.m.
On June 30, Denton Police Investigative Sgt. Jim Brett met with Hankins regarding the harassment charges. Sgt. Brett informed the firefighter that he would be arrested for harassment if he continued the unwanted contact with the female. Hankins informed Sgt. Brett that he would no longer attempt to communicate with the complainant.
On July 7, Hankins allegedly sent two messages to the victim. As a result he was arrested for harassment, a misdemeanor offense.

Shouldn't she be calling the police instead of the guy's boss?

Looks like she did, around two months later. Since it was work related, that was probably the most appropriate means of handling the situation. Pretty creepy though that he had a police Sergeant look him in the eye and tell him to back-off and then called her two more times! The moral of this story...Never date a troll - Even if he is a firefighter.
