Dallas police officers sued over fake tickets
A federal civil rights lawsuit was filed Tuesday against three current and former Dallas police officers and the city itself for allegedly "issuing false, fake, fabricated or otherwise irregular tickets." The six plaintiffs claim that "the officers targeted the poor, the homeless and those who didn't speak English well" and that the DPD "fostered a numbers-driven environment" and did nothing following complaints against the three officers.
Two of the officers, Senior Corporals Al Schoelen and Jeffrey "Jack" Nelson, were fired in March after an internal investigation found that they had issued fake tickets, amongst other things. Senior Corporal Timothy Stecker, the third officer named in the lawsuit, was suspended as a result of the investigation.
