Fort Worth offering cheap electric mowers — to a few
Fort Worth is offering all Tarrant County residents a chance to trade in their polluting gas lawnmowers for smooth, emission-free electric mowers for $99 each (the electric mowers normally retail for $400). Those interested will have to move fast, though, as the city will only have 200 mowers for sale.
1.8 million residents. 200 mowers. You do the math. Saving the environment in Fort Worth is only for the speedy.

How many of the 1.8M are in apartments/condos/townhomes?
Surely that narrows it down to 1.2M or so, Alex. tisk tisk

I guess you could call this a step in the right direction, or you could call this insulting. Who's absorbing the additional $60,000? Maybe that money could be used for research to renew energy, and get some cars off the DFW highway system. After you mow your lawn with your funky cool $99 electric lawn mower, you can plug it back into the fossil fuel burning electric grid. COME ON PEOPLE!!!!!

As to your question, snoryder, according to the linked article, The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is funding the project. As for the rest, yeah, much of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels, but it seems to me we gotta take things one step at a time here. Let's try to wean people off using gas-powered things, and then move on to finding a better way to create electricity. Sigh...if only solar power were a feasible financial option for most people.

Snoryder, you're such a hypocrite, complaining about energy use while you're sitting at a computer powered by electricity, using a website whose servers are powered by electricity, and whose readers all ALSO use computers powered by electricity.
