Heath Department of Public Safety “hires” new web-footed employee

... and he's a duck.

Seems Heath DPS officer Jim Simmons was minding his own bid'ness a couple weeks ago, inspecting fire station equipment and such, when he noticed a "wee wittow duckwing" traipsing across Laurence Drive; the darling critter ended up - he says, with a straight face - ambling into the fire bay and walking right into his slightly grease-stained yet welcoming hands.

AWWW! (Sorry, but it had to be said.)

When it was clear that the duckling was enjoying his new home - and that the tough-guy DPS officers of B Shift would not be parting with him anytime soon - a contest was held amongst the students of Amy Parks-Heath Elementary to come up with a name for the wee beastie - resulting in the moniker of Flashover. (Flash for short.)

Flash will be making public appearances with the burly officers whenever they visit schools and such to talk about what they do.

Question is: will the kids be able to concentrate on such things as fire safety when there's a downy little duck quacking around the schoolroom?
