Chesapeake Energy launches online video channel covering Barnett Shale

Chesapeake Energy Corporation is creating an online video channel called Shale.TV, as a new platform for information and education about the continued development of the Barnett Shale and other natural gas plays in the United States. The program is scheduled to begin airing this fall at Shale TV and will initially run Monday through Friday evenings.

Tracy Rowlett will serve as anchor and managing editor of the program, which will include a live talk show featuring guests and industry experts discussing a variety of topics about the production of natural gas in the Barnett Shale. Coverage will also include public hearings, town hall meetings, panel discussions, and shows in which viewers can ask and interact with industry experts.

"This is not a corporate promotion or public relations initiative,"’ said Julie H. Wilson, VP of Corporate Development at Chesapeake. "We have heard repeatedly and consistently from residents, critics, supporters, lessors, city staff, government officials, and civic leaders about the lack of consumer-friendly educational information available to the public about issues and opportunities related to natural gas drilling, production, and pipelines, particularly as they relate to an urban environment. We have listened and now we are responding by providing a forum for in-depth, independent discussions and analyses of these complex issues and opportunities. We will focus initially on the Barnett Shale and later add content on other emerging shale plays throughout the U.S. We approached Tracy Rowlett to be the anchor due to his high level of viewer trust and credibility as a respected journalist."

Rowlett has anchored newscasts in the Dallas/Fort Worth market at CBS and ABC affiliates KTVT and WFAA for more than three decades. He currently anchors the 5 pm newscast of CBS-affiliate KTVT Channel 11 and will leave the station this month to begin his new assignment with Shale.TV.

The executive editor of the new program is Olive Talley, a former producer for NBC’s news magazine Dateline, and previously a producer for ABC’s Diane Sawyer at the news magazine show PrimeTime Live. Talley has been a reporter for The Dallas Morning News and newspapers and radio stations in Houston, San Antonio and Austin.

Also joining Shale.TV as senior producer is John Sparks, a Fort Worth native and Emmy award-winning producer who has worked for local Fort Worth-Dallas affiliates ABC, CBS and NBC, as well as WNBC in New York.

If Tommy Lee Jones makes a guest appearance, I will never watch Batman Forever or Space Cowboys again.

I bet you will never see Rowlett report on Barnett Shale issues like this: http://txsharon.blogspot.com/2008/07/...

TXsharon - Since the drill site is "less than a mile" from you, I would assume you are collecting on the mineral rights?

Eeew…Two things I never want to hear in the same sentence; Tracy Rowlett and vajayjay. It’s just wrong…

jtmbls, why would you ass-u-me that? Even if I were collecting royalties, what difference would that make? Are you implying that people who collect royalties don't care about the environment?

Not following you there, fella.

Well, we all make assumptions now, don’t we? So while that is a cute little phrase, it’s rather pointless.

It is not my assertion at all that those collecting royalties don’t care about the environment. Nor is it that irresponsible drilling companies should not be held accountable for their actions. I just like to know what motivates people before I go taking a flying leap on to their bandwagons. Personal agendas do matter.

So then you were left out of the contract process?

Oh, and I’m no fella! :- ) But I have been called worse, I suppose.

If we cannot drill for oil and gas in the playground behind your house, the terrorists have won. If a few eggs get broken, and a little watershed here and there gets totally polluted, that's the cost of the fried egg sandwich. Tommy Lee Jones told me to get behind the Barnett Shale, and by god, I'm going to get behind it. He only saved the earth from destruction, like, twice. Or maybe the whole universe. I can't remember which, as I've slept since I last watched the documentary, Men In Black. Also, 9-11. I don't know how that relates to this but I'm sure it does.

jtmbls, My land is not in the pooled area where this well is. Not all land in the area is leased. I am currently not currently leased. Most people in my area do not own the mineral rights to their property.

Here is an explanation of mineral rights versus surface rights. http://www.texaskaos.com/showDiary.do...

Thanks for the explanation TXSharon. Although, I am aware of the intricacies of mineral/surface rights as I work for an Independent O&G company. (Not Chesepeake)

I was wondering if you yourself had been caught in one of these uncomfortable predicaments, thus spawning your activism. After reading the first three paragraphs of your link, I get it.

“How Barnett Shale Drilling Thwarts the Pursuit of Happiness In the pursuit of Happiness, Texans buy their dream home, a place in the country, a farm or a ranch-their own little piece of paradise.

In the pursuit of wealth or greed, and sometimes in ignorance, mineral owners disregard the rights of their fellow man.

In the pursuit of greed, oil and gas companies exploit both, abuse our precious natural resources and put us in danger.”
