Addison -- Arlington -- Dallas -- Lewisville -- Plano

Movies: We get word that locally-filmed vampire flick Blood on the Highway will play at the Lakewood this Friday, and so will a couple of the bands whose music is included in the soundtrack. Coming up on Friday, film guy John reviews Guillermo del Toro's new Hellboy entry, the 3-D production of Journey to the Center of the Earth and the basketball documentary Gunnin' for That #1 Spot. Also appearing under the movie tab this weekend will be reviews of Meet Dave, Bloodline and War, Inc.

Life imitates art: Casa Mañana's Avenue Q opened with Muppet-inspired adult humor in Fort Worth. The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts' Wyly Theater is on the up and up. Minnie reports on a Carrollton business drawing artistic inspiration from butterflies. Our Flickr community also provided great photos of July 4th, Airhogs, and the Warped Tour. We also bid a fond farewell to summer intern Scott, who jumped out of a plane.

Listen up: We're inviting you to raise a glass while listening to great local bands at our second local music showcase at Club Dada. Fort Worth Symphony Pops has a new conductor. User Ron D. said Alison Krauss with Robert Plant was a personal concert-going high. UNT's jazz chairman is retiring. Todd interviewed members of Dethklok and Chimaira. Brenna checks Inner City Kids and Klickitat. Sara Hickman is singing out against the death penalty. Don't all rush out at once: Jackopierce are back.
