Usually most artists try to conquer their own country before going international, except Luis Dubuc. Luis is the sole member of the Secret Handshake, meaning he writes every song, plays every instrument, and sings. His music is described as electronica pop. He uses a synthesizer and a keyboard to create his signature sound.
Not only is his music known all around the country, he is extremely popular in the UK. He gives all the credit to one of his sponsors, the European-based Drop Dead Clothing.
“Drop Dead Clothing is the biggest thing you’ve ever heard of there. They started promoting me, they put me on their website. After that they kept telling me to come to the UK. When I finally got the opportunity, 6 out of the 14 shows were sold out.”
His journey to fame started in 2004 in his hometown of Dallas, where he began playing local shows. As he became more known, he started playing around the country, and the rest is history.
He loves playing in the UK and the fans they’re saying, “They just get it. Before I start playing they already have chants going and kids are going nuts.”
His biggest single, Summer of ’98, has been played on radio stations across the country and has over 1.5 million hits on his Myspace.
He recently came through Dallas on the Warped Tour wagon. It was only his fourth show on the tour, but he said that he loves the experience and the crowds so far. He had a special fan at this show, his 16-year old sister. To make it even more warm and fuzzy he said it was her first Warped Tour.
His newest album One Full Year came out in 2007. He is currently working on a new album entitled I Am the Truth. If you want some free tunes (yea for free!) check out his website, where you can download his new “Mixtape”. It includes about ten songs that are either remixed from his previous tracks or new songs.
He won’t be in the area anytime soon due to his big international tour, but when he’s in town definitely make time. Since he’s known for making dance parties at his show, I’m sure you’ll catch yourself gallivanting.
