Rangers starter Luis Mendoza was the primary reason for the victory, overcoming his dismal last start to put together an impressive outing. Mendoza went six innings for the win, giving up just a single run on three hits. Mendoza walked one and struck out eight, lowering his ERA to 6.28.

Josh Hamilton led the Rangers lineup in critical hits, going 3-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI. Hamilton, who is now batting .312, increased his major league-leading RBI total to 93.

Ian Kinsler extended his hitting streak to 23 games, tying him with teammate Michael Young for the longest hitting streak in the majors this season. Kinsler went 1-for-4 with a walk, and leads the American League with a .332 batting average.

Young also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two walks and a double. Young walked in an RBI in the bottom of the third off a bases-loaded walk.

Rookie phenoms David Murphy and Chris Davis also had good days: Davis hit his 6th home run in 7 home starts in the bottom of the second, while Murphy launched a two-run shot in the bottom of the Rangers' five-run third inning.
