DALLAS Burglars in the Uptown neighborhood have drilled through the locks of apartment and condominium homes to gain access to electronics (including laptops and PDAs), clothing and accessories. Ten robberies this month would suggest the burglars are watching residents, targeting those who are on vacation or at work when they strike. The Dallas police department is increasing patrols and a crime watch meeting is scheduled for residents of Post properties on Tuesday, July 15.

The story about the crime in Uptown needs to be expanded. There have been many more attempted break ins than actual break ins. Those residents that have moved out of Uptown due to crime are quickly being replaced with new residents that pay more for rent due to market demand. This is profitable for Uptown apartment owners and the thieves at the expense of those that are burglarized. Look at the facts - how many crime deterrent efforts are working in Uptown? Uptown is not going through a streak of crime, it has been happening for a long time but never made public for profiteering reasons. Check the public police records for more information on the actual crimes being committed in Uptown. You will also be shocked to find out how many armed robberies have taken place in Uptown in the last few years. Many people and store owners do not want to release this information. If you knew that their store was robbed at gunpoint would you still be a patron? If you told your girlfriend, or daughter to not walk home from the bar at night alone and then she gets robbed at gunpoint, will she want that made public? That is why the statistics are low, it is to protect privacy and profiteering. Do not rely on police spokespeople to give you statistics, call the central office and get copies of the actual police reports if you want to know what is really going on in Uptown.
