Bush Library coming to Dallas besmirched by sleazy international donation tactics
Houston lobbyist Steve Payne, who raised more than $300,000 to help George Bush get elected president, was taped by the Times of London trying to hoodwink a politician from Kyrgyzstan into contributing a "couple of hundred thousand dollars" to the Bush library being built at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
The politician was representing former Kyrgyzstan president Askar Akayev who reportedly wants to rehabilitate himself. The Times caught Payne saying, "I think that some things could be done ... I think that the family, children, whatever [of Akayev], should probably look at making a contribution to the Bush library." The White House said deny deny deny.
