DALLAS A memorial is taking place at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary for Dallas photographer Tom Jenkins, who died last week of a heart attack at the relatively-young age of 54.
Jenkins was the lead photographer for the Dallas Museum of Art for 12 years, as well as a frequent contributor to the Dallas Observer, where he specialized in taking photos for restaurant reviews.
The memorial runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

i knew tom jenkins, from the oak cliff artist decade from the 1980s, and tom came into town from new york and found this weird very empty street at night but busy on the weekend kind of edward hopper paintings as storefronts, kind of homey.... i meet tom with a few others over some beers and frenchfries and we talked, on into the evening, not knowing, it was 4 am while the decade would turn so would bishop street into the present bishop arts district today, call tom and a lot of the early pioneers, in the area including my self, the ones who did not want to mow the lawn or get stuck in a house in nothwest dallas, and we did do our time in oak cliff which was pretty cool at the time, ask kenny goldman, while tom, will be missed, his wife lisa and son andrea are going to come out of this ok and toms work will not be forgotten, meanwhile i have been the city of dallas art historian for over 30 years and hope we can see more people like toms work get recognition and teach people how photography can be the one element in the arts that captures the moment. until then alexander troup, historian and artist...
