Sharon Cox, new president of Texas Association of Partners in Education

— Sharon Cox, director of communications and community relations for Denton Independent School District, has been elected president of Texas Association of Partners in Education.

Cox has been with the local district since 1999. She is in charge of school partnerships and the Adopt-A-School program as well as media relations, school volunteers, Grandparents in Public Schools and other community relations programs.

Prior to joining the district, she held several editing and writing positions with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, including founding and editing Class Acts, a magazine for students. She is the former director of community relations and communications for the Grand Prairie School District and past president of Texas School Public Relations Association.

She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and her master’s degree from the University of North Texas.

Formerly known as the Texas School Volunteer Program, the Texas Association of Partners in Education now has a membership of more than 250 volunteers, school community liaisons, business officials and other educators. The purpose of the organization is to provide leadership to schools, businesses and communities and to assist public schools in building partnerships to enhance student success. TAPE is headquartered in Austin.
