Irving Community Theater announces 2 new productions for Theatre on Edge
Irving Community Theater has very popular mainstage season that they perform at Irving Arts Center, but they also created ICT Theatre on Edge to perform more provocative works in the Black Box space at the ICT Studio. They have just announced two shows for Theatre on Edge which cost $8 cash at the door and you can call 972-594-6104 for reservations:
- The Winning Streak by Lee Blessing. Directed by Phil Nixon. Performing in an intimate Black Box setting at the ICT Studio starring Scott Nixon and Phil Nixon. Omar, a retired baseball umpire, suddenly gets a phone call from Ry, a son he’s never seen. Ry is the product of a one-night stand long ago. He’s never wanted to meet his absentee father, but now in his mid-thirties, after making a life for himself in a distant city, he seems to feel it’s time. Omar’s not so sure. In a series of funny, heartbreaking scenes, the two men negotiate every inch of a very rocky road in trying to come together. Is there any common ground? Can Omar ever master the skills to become a father, or Ry to become his son? Will baseball help? The local major-league team has a winning streak going. Meanwhile, these two men are just trying to win one in a row. A bittersweet comedy about the need for family in us all. From August 1 - 10, 2008.
- Someone Who'll Watch Over Me by Frank McGuinness. Directed by Stephanie Jackson. Performing in an intimate Black Box setting at the ICT Studio starring Bill Fountain, Zac Ramsey and Francis Henry. The story follows 3 unlikely friends, kidnapped and imprisoned by a nameless group of terrorist, as they fight to survive in less than desirable conditions. Adam, the American psychologist, Edward, the Irish Journalist, and Michael, the English university professor each bring their own national biases and prejudices along with their humor and strength into the tiny space that has become their home. Through the stories and lives of each other, they come to see the strengths and weaknesses in each man. The men learn to stand together against a common enemy and to stand on their own against the world. This look at human nature at its most desperate, glows with the hope, laughter and tears that help these 3 men to survive one more day. From August 29th thru September 6, 2008.
