Microscopic or not, some parasites can be real jerks.

Microscopic or not, some parasites can be real jerks.

Burger's Lake has voluntarily closed while health officials test to see if the site may be the cause of at least eight cases of cryptosporidiosis. Crypto, which can result in vomiting, weight loss, fever, and more, is a waterborne illness cause by microscopic parasites. Said parasites live in the digestive tract in humans and other animals.

Burger's Lake is a popular summertime destination for Tarrant County residents. Of course, if the parasites remain a problem, the lake might have to reinvent itself as a weight-loss resort.

UPDATE: The S-T reports an additional case of cryptosporidiosis has been confirmed (bringing the total number of cases to nine) and "hundreds of people" have reported suspected cases to the health department since the lake closed Thursday.
