Pegasus News Week in View: Next Generation Edition

Not only do we finally have a free app in the iTunes store for our iPhone users, we're happy to announce a second generation in the Pegasus News family: newborn Cayley Curotolo (who bears a stunning resemblance to her pop). When Chris isn't busy updating information on restaurants and events, he can now add feeding and diapering to his job description. Congratulations! This gives him a valid excuse for missing the Pegasus News Music Showcase Friday night. Everyone else (that means you) should hurry up and add the event to your favorites by Friday morning so you'll get in free instead of paying $5. We look forward to meeting you!

Metro: Steve-O at West and Clear describes the surreality of Chesapeake's public discussion of neighborhood gas drilling. Erin covered Rick Noriega's local attempt (with Gen. Wesley Clark) to close the fundraising gap in his Senate bid against Big John Cornyn. Tarrant County's sheriff was injured at home. A Dallas murder suspect turned himself in despite a lack of cooperation from 911. Dallas homeless folk will need IDs to sleep at The Bridge.

Acting out: Showing up on the radar screen this week were news of a video-as-art media show at the Conduit Gallery; details relating to this year's Asian Film Festival; an interview with young actress Alyson Stoner, who visited Dallas Wednesday to promote her new DVD release; and the upcoming multimedia show, "Thank You," happening at Hal Samples' Space on July 26. Shawn spotlights writer/director Stephanie Riggs about her world premiere musical in Flower Mound. Theatre lovers will also want to get FIT (Festival of Independent Theaters) at the Bath House Cultural Center this weekend. On the film review front, Josh Peck stars with (Sir) Ben Kingsley in a tale of New York life in the drugged-out '90's called The Wackness. Be sure to check the Movies tab for film guy's reviews of The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia.

Music: Brenna checked out Strange Fruit Project and The Clever Monkeys and spoke to The Secret Handshake. I (literally) bumped into Kenny Goss while posting live updates from George Michael's appearance at the AAC. And of course there's also Pegasus' second music showcase this Friday with Lifters, Telegraph Canyon, A.M. Ramblers, and Kristina Morland.

Best Bites: TG declares the local restaurant scene is in a tailspin after Rick Stein's and 62 Main closed abruptly. Two local food operations won national awards. Blue Bell has new summer ice cream flavors and Starbucks has new smoothies. The Law Reviewers visited Crêperie du Château. The Dubliner closed temporarily. Balls Hamburgers in University Park is also on its way out.

Sports: Todd's Cupcheck goes deep into the back alleys of Stockholm. College Football Top Ten previews SMU's offense and defense. Arlington's Martin High School has an Olympic athlete among its alumni. A former FC Dallas team captain will direct youth player development. Monica reports on the largest men's professional tennis event in Dallas, coming this fall. Farmers Branch dominated last weekend's North Texas Guard Games. On Sunday ESPN commentator Kevin Blackistone will discuss his memoir-writing collaboration with All Pro Dallas Cowboy Everson Walls. The Cowboys are locking up Pro Bowlers one huge contract at a time. After two months of speculation, the Stars finally extend coach Tippett's contract. And the Texas Rangers finished the first half of the season on a positive note.

Schools: Now-closed Wilmer-Hutchins High School may have marijuana growing inside. UNT's graduate school of journalism The Mayborn hosts its fourth annual conference for literary non-fiction in Grapevine this weekend. UTD's new dean is also in-demand in Russia.

The Biz: Presidential polling sponsored by Dallas-based Match.com touched a nerve. Billions of renewable energy dollars are blowing into the region. North Texas Daily reports that Fry Street Village is in limbo. Dallas Progress examines why Dallas lost MillerCoors HQ to Chicago. American Airlines is still hurting. Carrollton's GVI is doing wonderful things for Ecuador. Barnett's not the only Shale in town. The natural gas fields of East Texas are being bought up. And ACS has a new facility in Jamaica.
