— Three victims were able to escape through a window of a home in Rowlett in the mid morning hours of Tuesday, July 15 as fire destroyed their home.

The Rowlett Fire Department responded to the large, fast-moving fire at a residence in the 3300 block of Maple to find three victims, a 17 year-old male, an 18 year-old female and a 42 year-old female outside the home with minor injuries after escaping through a window of the residence, according to Interim Fire Chief Don Poovey.

"When we got the call, you could already see a 200 foot smoke column in the air," Chief Poovey said. "We are fortunate that the people in the home were able to escape with only minor injuries."

According to Poovey, the three victims suffered some minor abrasions and minor burns. All three were treated at the scene and released. Approximately 18 firefighters battled the blaze with four engines. The home is expected to be a total loss of approximately $87,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
