The Texas Rangers salvaged a potentially embarrassing series in Minnesota Sunday afternoon, beating the Twins 1-0 behind amazing pitching, catching and defense. The win improves the Rangers to 51-48 on the season.

The undisputed star of the evening was rookie catcher Taylor Teagarden, who not only knocked in the game's only run with a home run in the sixth, but seemed to work Texas' ravaged pitching staff like a pro. The home run broke up a perfect game to that point by Twins pitcher Scott Baker, and was Teagarden's first major league hit.

More importantly, Texas' pitchers seemed extraordinarily competent pitching to Teagarden, who will likely return to the minors after being the hero of this game. Texas currently has a glut of impressive young catchers with Teagarden, Saltalamacchia, Ramirez and Laird.

Rangers starter Vicente Padilla threw one of his best games of the season, especially considering he just came off the disabled list the day before. Padilla threw seven shutout innings, giving up just three harmless hits, walking two and striking out zero. Padilla only needed 80 pitches through those seven innings, and improved to 11-5 with a 4.41 ERA.

After Eddie Guardado held the Twins in the eighth, C.J. Wilson closed out the game, but not before nearly blowing it once again. With Joe Mauer at third following a wild pitch, Justin Morneau hit an infield grounder that Ian Kinsler scooped up and rifled to first for the final out.
